Started only December 2018, Drunken Detective has already earned a reputation judging by the number of footfall when I visited the place. It’s a cool ambience where the power is situated of the restaurant is situated right in the centre, the Bar. But even with the bar, there are many more reasons why you should visit this place. Especially if you are a lover of snacks and appetizers.
Just as you enter Drunken Detective, you are enamoured by the presence of this big BAR that sells only mocktails for now. The theme of the ambience is based on Sherlock Holmes so from the leather couch to the portraits on the walls, Anuj Mittal’s restaurant has Sherlock Holmes dominating the spirit of the restaurant.
Even though the bar serves only mocktails, the bar curates a really interesting mocktail menu. The one I felt won my heart was the Fire Paan Shots. Reminded me of the famous fire paan in CP, but this was way more juicy, sweet and flavourful. Try some of these interesting names, Spicy drunken brew, Red kiss and Junoon ka phal to satiate your drink-craving palate.
Some of the dazzling snacks or as I might say, starters, are Cheese blast nachos, Falafel and hummus with pita bread, and Vegetarian tex-mex pizza. The generosity with which cheese is used on the Nachos and Pizza will overwhelm you. The Salsa and the cheese infused Nachos create an explosion of flavours in your mouth and it doesn’t overwhelm your palate but renders a pleasant spicy experience.
The Falafel and the hummus are quite consistent in their texture. While the first one is crunchy and the latter is smooth if you love Lebanese food, this addition of Falafel and Hummus with the Pita bread gives the menu of the restaurant the diversity it requires.
Well, if you try these appetizers, either your palate will refuse to dilute the reminiscent flavours or your stomach will have little occupancy. So, I asked the manager to give me the basic Indian meal that is happiness guaranteed.
I received in a while on my table Dal makhni, Kadhai paneer, Mix veg raita and Assorted bread basket. Because Drunken Detective is by Paprika, the spicy treat was indeed very similar. They have a spicy Dal Makhni and less use of cream in it. The Kadhai Paneer is a delight, the right amount and use of spices to create a perfect blend of paneer and capsicum slices make the perfect dish for the different bread in the basket.
All in all, Drunken Detective is a winner when it comes to the food. I would say the USP of the place is its Mocktail menu and its appetisers, besides its ambience. So, this is the place for your kitty party, this is the place for your friends to sit down and chat. This is the place to hang out. So, go for it.
